Web Developer

Role Summary

The Web Developer is responsible for the development, maintenance, security, and performance of company and client websites. This role ensures that websites are reliable, secure, user-friendly, and aligned with business and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update websites using modern web technologies
• Manage website hosting environments and ensure high availability and uptime
• Implement responsive, accessible, and cross-browser compatible designs
• Perform website migrations between hosting platforms with minimal downtime
• Apply security best practices, including HTTPS, access controls, and patching
• Monitor website performance and resolve technical issues promptly
• Implement content updates, copy changes, and minor design enhancements
• Register and manage websites on search engines and index platforms
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients to deliver requirements
• Maintain documentation of changes, configurations, and remediation actions

Security & Compliance Responsibilities

• Ensure secure coding and configuration practices
• Apply updates, patches, and vulnerability fixes
• Support compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and relevant data protection standards
• Assist with incident response and remediation activities
• Maintain backups and disaster recovery readiness

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress or similar)
• Understanding of web hosting environments and DNS management
• Familiarity with cloud hosting platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, or local providers)
• Basic understanding of web security principles
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve website issues efficiently
• Good communication and documentation skills

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma, Degree, or relevant certification in Web Development, IT, or related field

(or equivalent practical experience)

• 2+ years experience in website development and support
• Experience supporting live production websites
• Experience working with hosting providers and managing deployments

Preferred Experience (Advantageous)

• Experience with enterprise or corporate websites
• Basic SEO and website analytics knowledge
• Familiarity with security frameworks or best practices (ISO 27001, NIST principles)
• Experience working under SLAs and support environments

Job Types: Part-time, Temp to perm, Graduate
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: R8 000,00 – R12 000,00 per month
