Full job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented, professional, and compassionate Remote Medical Receptionist with experience in U.S. medical insurance verification, specifically within the optometry or broader eye care field. In this role, you will serve as the patients’ first point of contact and play a vital role in supporting the practice’s daily operations by handling administrative tasks remotely, ensuring a smooth patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients over the phone and via email.
- Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Verify vision and medical insurance benefits for patients prior to appointments, including eligibility, co-pays, deductibles, and authorization requirements.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies and third-party payers to resolve verification and billing issues.
- Collect and input patient information accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and office policies.
- Educate patients on insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and billing procedures.
- Manage incoming calls, emails, and messages; triage inquiries and route them appropriately.
- Support billing and collections teams by providing insurance data and verification records.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and courtesy at all times.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in a medical receptionist or administrative role in an optometry, ophthalmology, or healthcare setting.
- Proven experience with U.S. medical and vision insurance verification (e.g., VSP, EyeMed, Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers).
- Familiarity with EHR systems and practice management software (e.g., Crystal PM, RevolutionEHR, OfficeMate is a plus).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused attitude.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced remote environment.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 codes, and basic billing terminology.

- Sufficient backup power supply for power outages
- Good quality headset with a built-in microphone
- Working hours are Monday to Friday (US Time Zones)
