We are expanding our African operations and seek a senior purchasing manager in South Africa to lead supplier negotiations, procurement operations, and supply chain coordination.
Position Overview
The Senior Purchasing Manager – Carbon Steel Procurement will drive sourcing and supplier management for industrial and commercial steel clients. This role focuses on:

Supplier identification and onboarding

Negotiating competitive pricing and delivery terms

Coordinating purchase orders and logistics with internal teams

Ensuring material quality and specification compliance
Once the first purchase order is successfully executed, the position transitions to a fully compensated monthly procurement leadership role starting at ZAR 39,000+ per month, with long-term growth potential.
Key Responsibilities
Steel Supplier Development

Identify and evaluate carbon steel mills, distributors, and suppliers across South Africa

Build and maintain supplier relationships for carbon steel coils, rebar, structural steel, and plates

Maintain ongoing communication with suppliers and production partners
Procurement Negotiation

Negotiate pricing, volumes, timelines, and payment terms

Coordinate Incoterms, shipping schedules, and export readiness

Ensure reliable supply and competitive costs
Supply Chain Coordination

Track production schedules, delivery timelines, and order fulfillment

Assist with purchase order preparation and supplier quotations

Collaborate with logistics and sales teams for seamless operations
Quality & Specification Compliance

Verify that materials meet engineering standards

Resolve production or material issues with suppliers

Maintain procurement documentation and supplier records
Market & Procurement Intelligence

Monitor market pricing, freight costs, and steel supply chain developments

Provide actionable insights and supplier recommendations to executive leadership
Compensation Structure
Phase 1 – Procurement Development

Phase 2 – Monthly Salary Activation

Base monthly salary: ZAR 39,000+ (depending on experience)

Required Qualifications

5+ years experience in steel procurement or supply chain management
-
Proven experience with steel mills, trading companies, or industrial manufacturing procurement

Knowledge of carbon steel coil, rebar, structural steel, and steel plate markets

Strong supplier relationship management and contract negotiation skills
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, or Business Administration

Experience with international steel trading and exports

Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
