The Role –

Ultimate FD is looking for an experienced Finance Director to support clients in restructuring their finance function through projects.

The role will involve working with numerous clients, on a project by project basis to oversee the clean up and systemisation of their Finance Function.

You will work closely with our project Finance Managers, Bookkeepers and our project manager. The role incorporates lots of ad hoc work and needs a highly skill Finance Director to determine the best set up for a range of complicated businesses, as well as manage the team to deliver.

You will manage and oversee a Finance Manager and numerous other team members who will also work on these accounts with you.

Key Responsibilities –

The Finance Director will work on multiple projects with multiple clients and oversee a a team who will support them.

  • Key lead on project works to drive improvement in the client’s accounts
  • Investigate issues associated with our client’s current set up and suggest preferred set up
  • Design the optimum set up for the client based on our unique methodology
  • Manage integrations between Xero and other bespoke systems used by clients
  • Oversee the production of management accounts in the project phase
  • Manage a project budget and share any risks of overspends
  • Work to the highest standard of quality in accounting output
  • Work closely with our entire team to ensure all solution are world class
  • Oversee clean up / investigative work when required
  • Hand the client over to our in house monthly reporting team upon successful project completion
  • Ask for ratings at the end of each project from our clients
  • Ensure all income, expenses, assets, and liabilities are coded correctly.
  • Complete cash flow forecasts for clients
  • Complete business modelling and financial forecasting work
  • Check accuracy, consistency, and completeness of all works before distribution.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to our clients to support them in high value business decisions.
  • Translate numbers into clear, actionable insights for non-finance clients.
  • Ensure bookkeeping and monthly accounts comply with accounting standards (IFRS for SMEs in SA / UK GAAP as required).
  • Ensure all tax filings (VAT, PAYE, provisional tax, etc.) are ready for submission (as and when required)
  • Create and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud and errors.
  • Allocate and monitor workload across multiple client accounts.
  • Ensure deadlines are met for all clients without exception.

Experienced in 

Financial Projects: Experience / comfort dealing with potentially messy accounting set ups that need resolving.

Systemisation: Advise on the best use of systems to streamline financial reporting and operational finance collaboration

Processes: Determining the best accounting processes / policies to ensure the efficient running of the finance department in line with GAAP / FRS.

Financial Reporting: Ability to pull together financial information and present it clearly so clients can understand and get a grip on their company accounts.

Finance Management: Ensure day-to-day management of business finances, respond to internal queries, and deal with any escalated issues.

Team Management: Manage multiple finance professionals to deliver

Finance Processes: Keep finance processes and systems up to date and under review, including maintaining and reviewing records of financial transactions, and make recommendations for changes and improvements as required.

Financial Governance: Liaise with the Directors and the external accountant to ensure that all financial accounting and statutory requirements are fulfilled.

Handling Queries: Handling questions and queries from customers and colleagues, whether by email or telephone, and ensuring these are responded to or passed to the relevant person in line with the agreed service levels for resolution.

About You –

With prior experience in a similar role, you have a strong grasp of financial reporting and how to structure finance departments for the optimal output. You will be deadline driven and value offering world class service to our range of clients. You will have experience working with web-based accounting software and be a skilled multitasker. You are highly skilled at forecasting and modelling and can report on cash in a way that entrepreneurs can fully follow and understand.

You must be able to spot system weaknesses / issues and be able to present solutions to resolve them.

Must Haves –

➢ B.Com Accounting Degree

➢ Full proficiency using Xero & other accounting packages

➢ Experience of day-to-day financial administration, using cloud computer packages, ideally in an SME

➢ Proficient working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, Word, and email packages.

➢ Able to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and a strong awareness of GDPR

➢ Excellent levels of both organisational skills and attention to detail

➢ Reliable and committed to meeting deadlines

➢ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop rapport and credibility with people at all levels

➢ Behave in a calm, professional manner even when under pressure and working with changing priorities.

Desirable –

➢ ACCA / CGMA or equivalent accounting qualification

➢ Immediate availability

Pay: R580,50 – R928,80 per hour

  • Bachelors (Preferred)

  • Xero: 5 years (Required)
  • Finance Director or similar role : 5 years (Required)
