Our client
Our client is a community-driven health and fitness business with 15 clubs across the UK, operating under three distinct brands. Committed to supporting both mental and physical well-being, they offer accessible and affordable gym environments. As part of their dedication to innovation, they are launching an independent online magazine that will deliver cutting-edge health and fitness content to a diverse audience, enhancing the member experience through personalised and friendly connections.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a self-reliant and dedicated Magazine Editor/Publisher to independently manage our online/digital magazine. This hands-on role requires full oversight of the magazine’s production, from content creation using AI tools to guiding the editorial and design direction. You will manage a designer responsible for the visual aspects, while freelancer support will be minimal and task-specific, primarily focusing on website enhancements. This role is ideal for a motivated individual eager to take ownership of our digital platform and continuously learn and adapt.
Duties & responsibilities
- Editorial Strategy and Management:
Independently develop and maintain the magazine’s editorial calendar, aligning content strategy with the publication’s mission and audience. Oversee content creation, including fitness routines, nutritional advice, health trends, and wellness lifestyle, ensuring it meets high editorial standards.
- Content Development:
Write, edit, and curate articles that meet quality benchmarks. Collaborate with contributors, freelance writers, and guest authors to produce impactful content. Maintain a consistent voice and style, and supervise AI-generated content, ensuring it is properly edited and aligns with editorial standards.
- Team Coordination:
Supervise and direct a designer to ensure alignment with the magazine’s design and content goals. Coordinate with freelancers on an as-needed basis, focusing on specific enhancements beyond internal capabilities.
- Quality Control:
Ensure all content is proofread, fact-checked, and compliant with health information standards. Maintain the magazine’s reputation by upholding high editorial and quality standards.
- Audience Engagement:
Take full responsibility for the magazine’s social media strategy, engaging proactively with the audience across platforms. Use analytics and reader feedback to adjust content strategies, enhancing engagement and performance.
- Operational and Administrative Duties:
Coordinate with marketing and advertising teams to support revenue generation. Manage the editorial budget and ensure compliance with copyright and publishing laws.
- AI Integration and Management:
Oversee the integration of AI tools in the content creation process. Edit AI-generated content to match human quality and sensitivity, while continuously mastering new AI tools and workflows.
Background & Experience
3-5 years’ proven experience as an Editor/Publisher for a digital magazine
Skills
- Strong writing and editing skills with an impeccable command of English.
- Proficiency in digital publishing platforms and SEO best practices.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- A passion for health, fitness, and wellness.
- Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn about AI content generation tools
